Considering that one of the last things he did was to take a bath with Crito's assistance, was there a hidden meaning in his last words concerning what Crito should give Asclepius on his behalf? Would Socrates have made a good member of the US Congress in this regard?

"Crito, I owe a cock to Asclepius; will you remember to pay the debt?"

I have to say, this is probably the best-read stupid question I've seen posted today. :)

Obviously he was asking Crito to sacrifice a chicken to Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing. Essentially, he asked Crito to pray for him. :p

edited for redundancy :D

Well at least he went out clean.

No, he would not have made a good member of Congress. He tried to do the right thing and to obey the law. Wouldn't fit in.

I'll have the answer for you right after my next meeting with Socrates. I'll ask him point blank just what he meant.
