I completely agree, not all horses will be alike. She might have done something to agrivate the horse, or the horse might have been having a bad day. My horse has those, but he learns to deal LOL =]. One of my worst experiences was when I was on a Tennesee Walking mare bareback. She is smooth, and was easy to ride. But she won't stop unless you literally rip her face off or run her into something. I took her to a canter, and she bolted on me. We were in a dead gallop around the arena. I couldn't stop her even when I ran her into the fence. I just kinda slid off underneath her. Surprisingly, I had not a bruise nor scratch. My trainer made me immediately get back on. Thats the best thing to do. Try and try again. Never ever give up. I hated that mare, and I still don't like to ride her, but I mastered her. The best thing to do is to talk to your granddaughter. Personally, the worst thing to do is ignore it and act like it never happened. She should get back up and try again. It's scary, believe me. But she can talk to the trainer and just ask if she can just walk and trot the horse around the arena, just to get used to her again. And eventually get the nerve to ride again. It's the best thing to do, and I'm so thankful for the tough love I recieved each time I fell off, or I wouldn't have been where I am today. =] Good Luck.

of course she's afraid (smart girl), she fell off...... now, put her on a very calm pony ...lead the pony & make sure she(your granddaughter) is not being noisy or twitchy...if she is, tell her to stop that & be calm or she may fall off!! after not falling off let her decide if she wants to ride anymore....

i recall riding a grumpy pony that tried to smash my leg against the rail every chance it got &it bit my finger.. i remember taking my first lesson in a group & one girl's horse bolted to the other side of the ring. i got totally scared thinking we were all supposed to gallop to the other side, which we weren't, we were supposed to walk!!! these things happened when i was a little kid & i've never forgotten!!

horse riding is not the safest sport. you &/or her parents need to recognize that accidents are a normal part of a potentially dangerous sport.

It could have just been that particular pony, often they're mischievous. Ask the staff at the place you ride for a gentle horse, most of these animals are sweet and mellow.

Leave her alone it would not be right to try and force her to do riding. She might ride after she grows up. Don't say anything to her or tease.. The world will survive is she never rides again---OK
I think you may have put her on old Dobbin before she was ready or old enough...

Yeah, place this question in the parenting/children category. This is not a pet question.
