Ok, so funny story... Totally thought I was constipated. I had super bad back labor and just thought I needed to go and couldn't. I felt awful and couldn't keep myself out of the fetal position. Hot sweats, cold sweats, all for about an hour and a half. My ex finally convinced me that something might not be right so we drove to my parents since our phone wasn't hooked up yet... just moved... My nurse says to me, "honey, you are in LABOR. Go to the hospital!!!!" Two hours later, my daughter was born! So don't ignore little (or big) signs! And yes, LOTS OF SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some women have signs and some don't. Some of the signs are diarrhea, vomiting, cramping, some bloody show (pink or brown tinged show), low pelvic pain (not contractions), sometimes increase braxton hicks contractions, and decreased movement of the baby. You might start pre-labor contractions also which are actual labor but are not "hard" labor and can occur for more than a day and you can still walk around, run errands etc (or at least I did). They are 30 seconds to a minute but are 15-20 minutes apart.

With my first two I had no signs of impending labor. It was just nothing, nothing, oh Holy Lord I'm going to die!! With my third I woke up all night running for the bathroom thinking I had to poo. Turns out they were contractions. You'd think being my third I would have know, but they were very different than before.
There are lists of "common" signs of labor just about everywhere, but in my opinion there is no "common" labor. Every women and every pregnancy is different.

I never knew when I went into labor. I was induced with my first child, so I knew when I went to the hospital that I was going to have the baby that day. With my second, my water broke and then I knew I was in labor. I didn't have any signs. If I had I would have stayed home and not been at Wal-Mart when it happened.

When contractions become so they can be timed and they move in a downward rythm instead of across the belly, you are in labor. A few days before you may lose your mucous plug which will be a little blood and mucous. If you are leaking fluid have it checked out. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids on these last days.

I THOUGHT I was going into labor days and days before I actually was. My husb. even stayed home from work! Then I'd fall alseep and the "contractions" (probably Braxton Hicks) would stop.
I was ACTUALLY in labor when the contractions got progressively stronger and did not go away. I stayed home as long as I could, and then we went in to the hospital. Our son was born 8 hours later. :)

Because I thought I had a gremlin eating me inside. I was having contractions and they were killing me. i went to the hospital and they gave me a shot of medicine and sent me home. They told me I probably wont be back for about a week. Well the next day the contractions were worse. I was on the floor curled up in a ball screaming because They hurt so bad. You will know..

you may feel cramping in your back or lower stomach. Most people lose their mucus plug a day or two before but not every one notices that they have lost it. Once that happens that is a clear cut sign that you are almost there. Good luck hope all is well with mom and new baby.
