I think that anybody using YA should be required to accept e-mails from anybody. The people that hide behind a nickname and make statements but won't allow rebuttal are cowards in my opinion.

I don't get enough spam?

Use the thumbs down on bad posters. After a while, they are not allowed to post anymore.

Good grief on the IM idea! I already get enough people figuring out my email off this with follow up questions. I cannot imagine getting through the day uninterrupted if IM was open to anyone.

I think you might just have a level of frustration with the more immature posters. I love the thumbs down choice as they no longer appear on my screen. It is the Internet and I have easily accepted that people forget that there is a person on the other side. The behavior might be "funny" to them... but I think that humor is easily lost. Since the less than helpful people are that way, it is easy for me to forget they exist very quickly.

Because some users would abuse that information and do nothing but flame people and send hate mail. I used to accept IMs and emails, but after a few (very) ignorant and hateful remarks, I changed my preferences to not allow it. If you want to make a rebuttal, just put it in comments so that everyone can see it. That's what you should do when you have a valid remark.

I have to agree with the others. Some of the things we talk about here are real HOT BUTTONS and can stir up hate.
Unfortunately there are people out there who just look for ways to spew !!!!!!
I do not like IM because I don't like being on the computer for long periods at a time .

Because sometimes, depending on the answer, someone can get offended and start hounding you with their assumptions and opinions. Some people get pissed that you don't agree with them, and they'll start emailing you.

One guy emailed me this - "You got a problem?" and tried to start a fight that I wouldn't play along with.

I still have my email up though. Just not IM.

Some people do allow them. I don't like it when they hide their questions and answers. You can tell what kind of a person they are by their questions and answers. It would be scary in my opinion to allow some of these commentors to e-mail me.

Many people don't allow emails for the simple fact of troll avoidance. Others because they are more comfortable lashing out without direct reprisal. Why don't we, instead of becoming inflamed by the anonymous words of hatred and anger, ignore the trolls and carry out our day without feeding them? Their words can only hurt you if you let them...

Because they don't want stalkers and junk mail from people they don't know or want to know.

You ever get a nasty or hateful email or IM from someone who disagrees with your opinion?
