I don't like the steady staring, it kinda feels like one of those games of "you blinked first". I like occassional eye contact - it keeps it comfortable that way.

It is really depending on the subject...
if it is personal, emotional, educational or any close subject you should look in the eye it will ease the conversation a lot.
sometimes we get scared some how or feel weak and try to look away especially when we are lying or guilty mostly it is better with eye contact , anyway sometimes it is rather dramatic to look away

I usually look straight into another person eyes when I talk to them, so Id prefer if that person would look in my eyes also. It just makes you feel like you had their complete undivided attention, and it makes you feel confident also. When the person is looking all around and all over the place expect for at you it makes you think that they aint interested in you or what you go to say. and its just disrespectful to me!

I much more prefer when they look straight into the eyes. It actually feels like contact. Not just words.

i don't i never do i don't know why but it makes me uncomfortable i usually keep myself busy i just start doing something usually there's something around to start cleaning or I'll be watching my kid, but i always listen I'm the person everyone calls or comes to whenever they need to talk. and i went back and was reading some of the answers below and depending on the person it doesn't mean they can't be trusted I'm just not comfortable like that and if someone can't believe me because i don't always look into their eyes that's their problem

Yes, holding eye contact with the person who's speaking helps me keep focus on the conversation and I am more likely to pay attention.

I prefer them look me in the eyes so I can tell if they are understanding what I'm saying. If they're eyes are starting to glaze over I know that they have no clue as to what I'm saying and I can stop and save my breath.
