Other countries are starting to see the use of hemp in everything from clothing, paper, lotions, and building material for homes. It's faster to grow then tree's and cheaper. In the 50's hemp was given to the Native Americans in the Dakota's to grow, but then the government started the war on crime and hemp became illegal. Why? Besides the fact that the paper companies had ties to congress.

because IDIOTS think HEMP is MARIJUANA. It's just that simple.
I honestly believe if they LIFTED the laws against marijuana the USA would STOP sending BILLIONS, to countries in south america. If people could grow their own nobody would buy, kills the traffic, dealers go broke and shut down. The argument against this is "well everybody will smoke pot then" which is absurd, there won't be any MORE pot smokers then there are NOW.
They WON'T stop it from coming in because they get their "CUT". The DEA and law enforcement brag on the news about "catching 300 lbs before it hits the street" meanwhile the SEMI with the 40ft trailer rolls on by behind them.
I say legalize , and open up the hemp market. Paper requires tree's and tree's are getting kinda thin these days.

They did at one time, in the thirties and forties when metal was short, for the war effort.
There are just to many other products and new artificial products that are much better.

Marijuana is a few distance much less risky than alcohol. Marijuana does not bring about improved drugs, till you have an addictive character. Legalize it, tax it. this could first deliver extra gross revenues to the country, 2d it could be controlled revenues, taking the criminals out of the image. enforce the comparable rules with marijuana as alcohol has.
