Let's say guitar player. And let's say Europe.
I saw once two guys in the Belgrade, they were really great. So I approached them, bla, bla...and I played a little bit with them. It was such a EXPERIENCE. Exposed to a random audience. Great feeling. So I was thinking, why couldn't I make may self an adventure. I got a friend who is great guitarist, we pack, bring some money, guitars and hit the road. We could travel whole Europe, meet bunch of people, play to bunch of people, see the world. Maybe we even earn some money, because in the Serbia an average motly sallary is 200-300 $. What do you think about that kind of adventure? Would you dare?

I do not personally play well enough for even one person to want to listen.

In some towns you can play all you want and will get some money, but in many countries and even more towns you need a license, which either cost quite a bit or takes a while to be produced.
In the places where you do not need a license, mostly there are already many people playing on the street, for a living or as a thin disguise for begging.
Or you are allowed to play because there will not be many people willing to part with money so most street players will do it for fun.

But if you are smart the worst that happens is that you will be send on, and will not earn a lot.
Talk with the local street musicians about what is allowed, also asking if any places are free or if the places have people playing there all the time.
And bring enough money to survive without earning a bit from your playing, so that the money you earn is extra, luxury or at least the jam on your bread, and you are not playing for your bread, a place to sleep and a ticket home.

If you like fantasy books, urban fantasy, read about Eric, who is a street musician getting in many difficulties with elves.
The writers do paint a live like picture what it is like to be a street musician, in the USA:

Good luck and have fun!
