If you drive west onto Merritt Island, You'll find a mall with a movie theater and plenty of restaurants.
If you drive south on A1A, US 1, South Tropical Trail, or Riverside Drive, the roads are dotted with plenty of bar & grills... Conquina's and Conch Key on US 1 are my favs, but probably 25 minutes from Port Canaveral.
Downtown Cocoa is one of those historic districts with lots of shops, restaurants and bars.
Being a Florida Resident, I'm sure you've heard of Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon's.
You can also take an airboat ride and see some gators. No joke.
Port Canaveral has Casino boats that are free to board. Last week they were temporarily shut down for not paying their taxes or something, but I think they're up and running again.
Don't worry, it'll be EASY to kill 4 days here. I do agree with you, though: spending ALL of them at NASA would be pretty rough.
Good Luck!

RE:
Things to do near Kennedy Space Center?
My in-laws want to go to Kennedy Space Center for 4 DAYS in October. What can you POSSIBLY do there for 4 DAYS?! Anyway.... I was wondering what was near by, so that hopefully we can compromise on going to Kennedy for half the time and someplace else, for the other part of the time.
We all live in...

You can't spend 4 days at the Space Center. There is the police hall of fame, space camp and of course the space center. If your family likes nature if you drive out towards Playlinda beach they have a nature trail you can drive on. I don't know how much wildlife will be out though due to it being very hot right now. I do believe though on that same road they have a nature center. That's pretty much it. There is Jungle Village which is a family fun center, it is very crowded most of the time. Then of course there is always the beach. Good luck!

Well you have the Kennedy Space Center for a day, stretch it out it could last for a whole day. Then there is the beach Cocoa Beach is very nice, and if you are really want to see a site walk to Playalinda beach. You may see topless sunbathing there. Then you have shopping at Ron Jon's and the Merritt Sq mall. Beyond that there is not much else, I lived there for 3 yrs.

You can pretty much cover the Space Center in one day. I've been there enough times to know. If you like to shop, you should visit Ron Jons in Cocoa Beach for a while, it has been around for mega-years and grew from a little surf shop to a huge store. There are plenty of places to have lunch or dinner right on the beach. There aren't a whole lot of tourist type things to do there but shop.

Sure, Hans the teenage girl, its not as creepy as a haunted house tour, and believe me, a haunted house tour is just gimmicks, once you scientifically examine it like you would be doing at the space center. By the way Hans, since you're a teenager, why don't you ask your boyfriend, Heidi, for a date?

Orlando is near there there, and all the attractions (Not just theme parks) of Orlando. There is also a 3 day Bahamas Cruise that leaves from Port Canaveral, if you can manage the time right. Both Royal Caribbean and Carnival.
