Gods, by anthropology standards, were created for the explaination of natural occurences that could not be explained such as lightening, hail storms, earthquakes, eclipses, volcanos erupting, meteor showers, ect.
Early mans concept was that a God had to be powerful and huge and possibly magical (because no one saw someone do these things) to validate the causes. As early man progressed and language and technology became more advanced plus population increased, the stories of the Gods became more advanced and then became to have a shape or form. Christians don't get mad, this is based on historical records were you can see the advancement of man through the ages. Now, with so many civilizations coming together, they would bring their beliefs into the group and so on until there is a mush of several religions to each civilization and then they simplified or changed deities to suit the population.
To be a God, you must be powerful, mystical, cause unexplained happenings, be all knowing, and love your people (and mess with their lives on occasion).
Scientificly speaking, God or Gods are omnipotent beings created for the soul purpose of unexplained phenomenon and to become a god you must follow the above criteria.
Sound familiar Terry?

There's so many in our society and I agree that man sets a parameter...for idols. From what I understand, most Gods like Greece, Egypt, and various others are flawed by some "human error" so to speak. An example would be to research Zeus or Isis (Egyptian)

As far as God from the OT/NT you don't get those flaws. This is my opinion.

ah... one of the oldest questions humans have had to answer...
as i see it, perhaps it is the forces that move the universe, the rules of the universe and the universe itself. we are all part of god.
who set the parameters... people keep trying to define what god is, but it's a thing that defies definitions because definitions set a frame around something and limit it, and it is limitless so...
it's like the story with the blind people and the elephant. each sees a different aspect and thinks that is god. and those who happen to be facing away from the elephant see no god.

God cannot be put into a box. God has no parameters. Religions decided what God is.

For me, and only for me a god(s) is/are the second tear of the celestial hierarchy. Top dog is the unknowable One. The gods are the major though paths that emanate from the one. Passion, as an example. The third tear is the angels, Passion of sex, of hate, of a sport etc. works for me.

Well, it depends on what god means to you!

If you break it down to the atoms...god is basically the energy between the littlest particles (the empty space). It's said to be the ever-creating energy that binds us all.
You know when they say that everything is part of the one...well that's where it comes from.
