I've heard this term regarding computers and video cards and gaming, what is it exactly?

Yes, it's basically running the processor, RAM and/or video card at speeds higher than the factory rating. Doing so can noticeably increase performance, but requires specialized cooling hardware, some computer savvy and the willingness to have your CPU reduced to smoldering molten slag, if things go horribly wrong.

If you want your system components to last for their full natural life-span, don't overclock.

A Good Graphics card is best , Nvidia do very good ones from 8600 upwards. G/ Force model. I have a Nivdia 8800, plays the new games a treat. CRYSIS and COD 4. Overclocking can give you many problems. And unless you have a good quality G/Card ,i would not bother, also you will probaly need a better cooling system, and extra power. Is this really worth the trouble.

It's a method of running your memory at a higher speed thus improving performance of your cpu or video card. Make sure you know where the J5 jumper on your motherboard is and how to use it to reset the cmos on your board in case an overclock fails and you are unable to boot your system. Unless you have a high-performance cpu fan/heatsink and good air flow thru case don't expect anything over 10% with 5% probably being the safest. Here's the basics of o/cing.
Another thing--NEVER up the voltage to your video card.

The act of running a chip (RAM, CPU and GPU) at a higher clock speed than it was specified for. Very often, chips are capable of running faster than they are specified for, and thus can be safely overclocked. You overclock a chip by setting it at a higher bus speed, a higher multiplier, or both. Sometimes you need to set the chip to run at a higher voltage to accomplish this, further increasing the heat output of the chip.

The term "fanboy" is a pathetic insult often used by fanboys themselves to try and put down people who don't like whatever it is they like (for example Apple products).

An overclocker is a fanboy Blake? You clearly dont know much of anything.

It's setting the motherboard's clock to a higher speed than the rated speed of the processor. Many computer hobbyists do it to get higher performance at a lower cost, but you have to be careful about it. Some processors can run hotter and/or become unstable if the speed is set too high.

Over-clocking is a term fanboys use to make it seem like they have some kind of special equipment that runs faster than yours. It's supposed to mean that a piece of equipment is running faster or at more clock cycles than it's originally designed for.

Over-clocking in itself is totally useless. It runs a big danger of over-heating. Just stick with a dual-core processor and a high-end video card (don't forget the fans) and your computer will be as good as anyone else's.

It is really tweaking your PC for the best (fast but stable) performance (then sometimes bragging all about it).
Read all about it here:

Overclocking is SAFE if you know what you are doing, if you stay within stock voltages and provide good cooling.

Now, start your engines, I mean you overclocked PCs!
