...detriment, because they expected the Federal Gov't. (via FEMA?) to bail them out after the tragedy?
Isn't that exactly what some people are saying about the people in the way of hurricanes? That they don't "prepare" or "remove themselves" because they expect Federal bailout?
Should we all work and live in buildings that we, ourselves, have made and are "responsible" for?

My point here was NOT to make fun or make light of tragedy--but to point out to those people who continue to post things like, "How many people will not prepare for the coming hurricane because they expect the Feds to bail them out?" just how ridiculous they sound!
Of course the people in the WTC could NOT GET OUT, and my heart breaks for them and their families! Many of the people in New Orleans could not get out, either. AND they relied on the levis!! Were they NOT supposed to trust that the specifications for a safe levy were followed. Were they NOT supposed to trust the government inspectors? Do you honestly think that anyone would risk their homes and their families--their very LIVES--because they expected some long-term "help" from the government????
And, please, try to understand sarcasm when you read it!

Go to the mirror and look at your own humanity and ask yourself what went wrong, would be my advice.
These people are your fellow Americans...they don't need a lecture about personal responsibility when they are homeless, especially from the current United States government, which doesn't seem to take responsibility for anything anymore.

Regarding the WTC, I don't believe there was an ample warning on the news saying to them to not come into work for the day.
Regarding hurricanes, there usually is news a few days in advance, to let people know the direction the hurricane has turned towards, and about where it will make landfall. If people are able to get out of town and stay with families for a few days, that's great. Many people are not though.
I don't think anybody's intention in staying around during a natural disaster though, is so they can reap benefits off of FEMA.

I sort of see where you're going here.
I'm glad my family raised me to be independent.
I never follow the crowd. It's too easy!
If a plane hit the building I was in you bet I'd get out as fast as my feet would lead me!
EDIT: See Joey the government knew about and relied on people like wrecker here who will ask no perfectly legitimate questions about the WTC and 9/11 out of the belief that being silent in the face of betrayal by our government is more patriotic and respectful of the dead and their families than to make absolutely sure the right people are prosecuted for the attack on our country and the citizens of the United States who sacrificed entirely too much that horrible day!
Something along the scale of the 9/11 attacks could not have been created and pulled off by cavemen......it's just that simple.
No WAY could that have happened!

Are you that much of a left wing nut???????? Seriously you can't that and I'm sorry dumb.
On Sept 11 2000, 3,000 hard working Americans went to work at the World Trade Center, When they woke up I highly doubt that they expected 2 BOMBS (Airplanes) Would be FLOWN INTO THE WTC, are you Freakin Kidding me, don't you dare disrespect the lives lost that die, I have a slide show I teach in my Intro to terrorism AND Terrorist Operations Classes that show people jump out of the windows instead of dying by fire or a building collapse. GROW UP
EDIT// I love seeing some of these responses I would have just ran out of the Building IF IT WAS THAT EASY I am pretty sure people DID OR WOULD HAVE TRIED, How can some of you sit there a MONDAY MORNING an event of TWO Bombs (Airplanes) hitting one of the Biggest buildings of the world, Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!

What on earth are you trying to say. Are you comparing 9/11 to Katrina.
Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin had days warning about Katrina. School busses were sitting there idle. He did squat waiting for the feds to bail him out.
The people in the WTC, along with NYC gov't had no warning of planes hitting the WTC. By the way, there was no call for FEMA to bail out NYC. NYC did it on its own.

What?
EDIT - Completely different mentality between the WTC victims and the people of Katrina. The people who didn't evacuate from Katrina WERE expecting the government to swoop in and save the day. Those people have lived off the government their whole lives, they are completely dependent on it. You may think it's crazy that someone would risk their homes and lives waiting for the government, but that's how those people live.
People in the WTC were working - which shows that they obviously are somewhat self sufficient. And know they have to take care of themselves.

Nobody stayed there waiting to be bailed out. They didn't get the word to evacuate or got it too late. Some were physically unable to get out due to fire. It is really irresponsible to compare an unwarned terrorist act with a natural disaster that people usually know is coming days in advance.
p.s. The government pays for structures/belongings, not lives. Staying there doesn't get you any more/less money.

Obviously not. Not everyone could get out of the Towers in the time available before they could collapse. Not everyone can afford to move a hundred miles inland to avoid hurricanes, either. If people only lived where it was perfectly safe, the west coast would be deserted (earthquakes), the south would be deserted (hurricanes) and the midwest would be deserted (tornados)....

Unfortunately, many of those who perished on 9/11 were told to go back to their desks by their employers. The sad part is that they listened. Maybe they believed nothing was wrong or that the government would save them. Who knows? Too many innocent lives were lost that day and too many innocent lives are being lost every day in Iraq. The lives of our US soldiers and those of the innocent Iraqi civilians. War is over if you want it. Fight War Not Wars.

perhaps they were all socialists and expected a government FEMA feeble rescue attempt?
well, let's see just how well you handle THAT kind of intense stress, when your very life is at stake.
i swear people ask some highly irreverent questions... apparently you had no relatives in those buildings.
have some damned respect for the LIVES that were lost that day.
