I will go on a vacation early September. I really love to go to Monument Valley, UT. I believe this was used in Forrest Gump movie. Where's the nearest airport? hotel? Is it worth a vacation? What are the things I could do there? Thanks!

Monument Valley is a Navajo tribal park and a national landmark in Colorado just a bit north of Four corners national monument, also a Navajo Park. It was used in many westerns, but I don't remember it in Forrest Gump (which does not mean it was not) It's known for the John Ford Westerns. There are a number of places to fly into, but I think Albuquerque New Mexico is closest.

There is a hotel there, Gouldings Lodge - which is really the only place to stay at the monument.

The only real thing to do in Monument Valley is to tour the valley, usually in your car, and see the monuments. This is fun and scenic, but not a full vacation. You can, however easily do a vacation in this area of the country just by visiting national and tribal parks.

I actually used to live a couple of hours from there.
Forrest Gump did run thru it .
If you use mapquest enter either Kayenta AZ which is just south of MV or Mexican Hat UT which is just north of MV
Your nearest airports are either Farmington -[ FMN -] NM or Cortez [-CEZ -] CO both of which served by twin engine 19 passenenger turbo prob AC
UAL will do it from DEN & USAir will do it from PHX .That's the expensive way to do it. The cheaper way to do it is to use the nearest airport served by commercial jets which is Grand Junction [GJT ] CO not Albuquerque [ABQ ] NM
Rent a car w/ at least a V-6 bc you will be doing high speed passing on two lane roads and there is no substitute for hp
If you do a long ovate loop from Grand Junction CO that takes you thru Arches NP
Canyonlands NP Right on SR 95 at Blanding UT to the jct of SR 261
left on 261 Down the Moquoi Dugway -10% grade ,3000' vertical descent, washboard gravel , no guardrails But what a view and into Mexican Hat - There are decent motels in Moab ,Monticello & Mexican Hat UT
Then thru MV into Kayenta ,Shiprock NM and Four Corners Cortez CO, Mesa Verde NP,Durango ,Telluride/Ouray CO & then back to GJT you will have had a great trip and seen many things that you will never forget
