I been listening to Rome for about 6 years now. I have never been able to find a sports talk show that is half as funny but still keeps its sports agenda a good as the show does. I can't think of any show with callers who bring smack like the jungle. Is this show just hands down the best show or am I missing something else somewhere else? I am only asking because I work for 10 hour days and Rome only takes up 3 hours of my day. Help me kill another 7 !!! (ps) I know about Dan Patrick and the sports bash but want something better.

The Jim Rome radio show is released through syndication. The TV show Jim Rome Is Burning is ESPN programming. I like Jim Rome much better than I use to. For some he is an acquired taste.

I like Rome, but I think most of the Jungle callers sound like morons. I've heard better trash-talking in elementary school playgrounds. Still, Rome makes it more than worthwhile and I always have it on my computer in the office here every morning.

Outside of Rome, I would probably recommend the Drive on Fox with Chris Myers. He's a pretty genial host, and the talk is pretty intelligent. Not as funny as Rome, but a very good look at sports. For something a little lighter, I'd suggest Shemon and J-Dub (James Washington), another Fox production. They've got a good rapport, and both are very outspoken without being annoying.

I'd stay away from Colin Cowherd, who I think is the worst thing on sports radio. Always thinks he's right, and cries like a baby when he's not.

As far as nationally syndicated shows, there isn't much competition but Rome gets boring after a while. I really got tired of his clone wannabees who need to get a life.

I really like Mike and Mike on ESPN radio. They are the best and most interesting.

The best show is Mike and the Mad Dog but they aren't nationally syndicated.

I can tell you that local sports talk in Pittsburgh sucks. And the callers are morons. I used to really like the local guys in Boston when I lived there.

Rome is like the rest of national talk shows - full of themselves and spend all their time talking about subjects that are just not interesting... Vick, NBA Ref, Manning, Bonds... Who cares anymore. Move on to another subject. I prefer local shows like Mac, Jurko and Harry in Chicago, or Mike North. I don't need to listen to hours of the same boring topic.
In Chicago - they play Rome on tape delay over night. Why? Because when he was on here - no one listened.

Listen online at am1000.com to Mac, Jurko, & Harry from 3-7 CST. Its the afternoon broadcast in Chicago on ESPN Radio. They have some really cool segments and aren't afraid to belittle a caller that has something stupid to say.

I like Rome, but I think he gets a bad rap b/c he says things that are very controversial.

RIDICULOUS! INCREDIBLE!

RE the poster who mentioned Colin Cowherd (we called him colon cowturd when he was doing the TV Sports here in PDX). He is like Rome, who is like 99.999% of all sports talk hosts. Big bags of wind that contribute nothing of substance.
It is easy to take no-brainer opinion ("Vick is an animal abuser...") but try to come up with a reasonable opinion as to why so many pro athletes end up in trouble with the law... fugehtaboutit...

The tailor their opinions to the lowest common denominator and typically, that is who calls in.

I used to hate Max Kellerman on Around the Horn, but he is very funny and cynical, and insightful on the Max Kellerman Show on Espn radio 10-12 in the morning.

Rome is more of an opinionated show. Mike and Mike in the morning is probably the best. I enjoy Mike and the Mad Dog cause they like to rip each other whenever they can. But PTI seems the best to me they argue each other with humor but use facts and stats with everything.

i think jim rome is the worst sports talk show. he's extremely opinionated. not objective enough. tries too hard to be a tough guy. listen to mike and the mad dog, every show compared to theirs is nothing.

Mike & Mike in the morning is the best show on the radio from 6-10 am. No queston hands down the best show on regular radio during that time span.
