First off, no it's not a crime. If you are in the US at least. 1st ammendment gives you the right to freedom of speech. I am not racist and I do not condone racism, but where my rights are infringed by those law suit happy people in the ACLU, you know Political Correctness has gone WAY too far.
Second, why argue on the net? It gets you nowhere, and the one who starts it usually wouldn't last a second in a face to face confrontation.

A racist comment is not a crime. In fact, inflammatory or "hate speech" is still protected speech under the First Amendment since freedom of speech was originally intended to protect speech that some find objectionable .

A racist comment is never a crime, and you have a first amendment right to be a racist idiot. You don't have a right to advocate violence against any group or person, though. You also do not have a right to slander anybody (liberately lying with the intention to harm somebody's reputation).

why would you join an argument late into it and then feel compelled to make a racist comment to try to get your point across? it's not a crime, unless stupidity is a crime now.

No, it's an exercise in free speech.
If you hurt someone while using that kind of language, then you'll probably get accused of committing a "hate crime."

No, but having been the target of a few racist comments in my lifetime, it sucks. We don't choose what race we are, hun.
