I live in Port St. Lucie, FL. I am on the east coast 78 miles south of Cape Canaveral, FL. I thought that I heard the sonic boom of the shuttle. Is it possible? Where can I find the path that the shuttle took over Florida.

Yes, it is certainly possible. If you were anywhere along the (final) flight path, you would likely have heard it.

The flight path (today) took it almost due north for the last few hundred miles. Over Cuba, then over southern Florida, then on to KSC.

I used to work in Los Angeles during the early days when the shuttle often landed at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave desert. I used to hear the sonic boom all the time (even though the shuttle was still too high overhead for me to see it).

A "sonic boom" is created when a craft reaches the threshold of the speed of sound. The shuttle, upon re-entry is already travelling at 25 times the speed of sound (at sea level) when it begins re-entry. By the time it lands it has bled off most of that speed and lands at between 200-300 mph (about 25-45 percent of the speed of sound)...

What you heard was most likely not a sonic boom, but it very well could have been the shuttle (immense amounts of air are dispersed by its flight, that still can make quite a racket on the ground)...
