I have a HP pavilion 750n with a 200w BESTEC ATX 1956Dpower supply and a pentium 4 prosessor. I wanted to get a new video card and needed to upgrade my power supply. I was looking at a A-POwer 550w ATX on ebay and an ultra X-Finity 500w on tiger direct. Which would be the better choice and would they be compatible with my computer please help. Thanks

A-Power is sort of unknown in the PC enthusiast community. If it complies w/ ATX V2.2 or 2.3 and has a number of Global certifications (UL, TUV, FCC, Nemko, etc), it could be OK. X-Finity is a fairly reliable brand. If you want something good but cheap, consider the HEC Orion.

Do not skimp on a power supply, in most cases a power supply that costs less than $50 is of very low quality.

When purchasing a power supply I look for certain features such as low noise (normally that means a 120mm fan or larger), 80% efficency or higher (less power is converted to heat) and modular, so you can avoid the mess of the extra cables. I would look for those features in that order.

These two power supplies are good quality and are not expensive:

The Vantec is a really good power supply so I think it should be at the top of your list.

I just replaced a 500watt ultra that fried while customer was gaming. Stay away from the inexpensive high wattage PSUs.
In addition to watts look for the amperage on the +12v rails.
Heres one of the best made. If you use google checkout you can get it for 79.99 delivered to your door. It has everything, lots of cables,it's quiet, high efficiency, modular, three +12v rails at 18 amps each and power to run anything you throw at it. It also comes with a rare 5 year warranty.

The cautioned potential grant wattage for that card is 300W. you could or is probably not waiting to run it on your device, despite the fact that, you may injury different aspects on your computing device in case you attempt. I recommend upgrading your potential grant.
