Ok so Barry doesn't seem to be that popular judging by your responses to my last question for a boys name! What about these names above? My partner likes all these old fashioned names that seem to be trendy again. But to me Jack, Harry, Charles still sound old and not cool at all! I had uncles' by these names when I was a kid and that was a long time ago!

But she's insistent on one of these names. So what's best:

Barry, Harry, Jack, or Charles!?

Harry is a family name for me and I love it - my cousin wanted to call his son Harry but as their surname is Hall they decided against it! My inamorato of the moment is called Jack so I think that's a great name! Charles (or Charlie) is also cute - they are old fashioned names but they turn up in my classroom all the time so they're definitely back in modern usage. The only thing I'd say about the name Barry is that it sometimes gets shortened to Baz which is not my favourite name... It's also worth bearing in mind that some people change their mind about their chosen name for their baby as soon as they see the newborn. He might just look like a Dante... Congratulations and all the best, :)

Not Barry, and Jack or Jak is cool but really popular, and I think more uncommon names is cool. Harry is sweet but if you have two boys don't name them Harry and Charles otherwise people will think you're the royal family. Charles is a bit 'posh' on its own but I really like Charlie. If you don't like the nickname Charlie I wouldn't suggest calling him Charles. You could even go for Harry Charles, Charles Harry, Harry Jack, etc. with one as the middle name if you can't decide. Do they all go well with your surname? That's really important, and check the initials don't spell anything rude or something they'll get teased about!

Jack is the ULTIMATE cool boy name right now! It is once again so popular, and if you ask me, there is not a more masculine, cool-guy name. I plan on giving my boy the name Jack, at least as a middle name!

As for Barry, well, my mom's 63-year-old boyfriend's name is Barry, so he's all I can think of when I hear that name. (Except Barry Manilow...)

Harry- is sort of cool if it's short for Harrison. But the kids will make fun of him and call him Harry Pitts or Harry Butts or something like that.

Charles- Way too royal-sounding, but if you call him Charlie, that's awfully cute, and unique for the moment.

But my vote is for Jack.

Jack is a super cool name. Yes, go w/ Jack :) Barry is OK.
Most men named Charles end up being called Chuck. And, I don't like Harry.

I keep putting the same answer but here goes, dont be bullied. I had it with each pregnancy- "You cant call your child that" and "that name is awful",- It your child and they will just have to get used to it, what they gonna do, not say the name and go "hey boy!" The only one I not so keen on is Charles, conjours up images of big eared royalty but my opinion is nothing, Good luck with Harry, Barry, Jack or Charles, whatever you decide to call him he will be perfect. Jack Charles or Harry Jack?
