The most common cause is the collection of goop in the throttle body. The PCV and breather hose recirculates oil and gasoline vapors to the throttle body and these heavier oily vapors will solidify inside the throttle body on the inside of the throttle body or engine side of the throttle plate or flap.

To clean the throttle body you need a can of throttle body cleaner and clean rag. Hold the throttle plate open and keep wiping and spraying the the rag and throttle body until the rag comes out clean. This should take care of it.

Spark plugs that are way out of spec's (gap way too wide) can make it run rough, wobble, since the timing to each cylinder is slightly different.

Only once did I see an air fliter that was so filthy that the engine had significant power loss. Depending on your driving habits, mileage, and dusty country roads, you should not have to replace the air filter but every two to three years. (25-35,000 miles) A tune-up these days is just a visual inspection of the engine and new spark plugs.

idle speed settings wrong? if its an older engine, easily adjusted by turning a screw or needle. could be low idle jet blocked. again easy to clean. if the car runs when its got revs but then cuts out when you get to a junction (even when warm) then i would suspect the slow idle jet
