hopefully this is a joke - fighting in hockey is not personal, many of the guys who fight are the nicest players on the team and are friends with the guys they fight against. it's about settling a score between the fighters' teams or trying to get some momentum going when the team looks flat. you have to protect your skill players and you can not do that over coffee.

They fight
They go out and drink beer
After the season they spend time at each other's cottage
The season starts, and they fight some more!
They go out, have another round of beers
After the season, more golf and cottages
Then the season starts, more fights
Then another round of beer, after the beer one of them sleeps with the other guys wife
Another fight (this time with the wife)
A divorce
The players fight again
More rounds of beers
Off-season comes and the players are still at each other's cottage, and the wife is now with the other guy and everybody is friends again!
Why Al Iafrate and Gary Leeman couldn't follow these rules is beyond me!

I'll bet they DO meet for a beverage (probably not coffee though) after the game and talk and laugh about it.
It doesn't mean that they won't fight again later on though.

Simple, it be a part of the game. Don't think meetin' over coffee and havin' a discussion would have made this sport as popular as it is ;). Hypothetical example, would Professional Football be as exciting if flags were used instead of tackelin' the opponent?
Don't think so ;(...

Hockey is a very physical game and also a very competitive game. Testosterone is flowing and in the heat of the moment, they probably lose their cool.

Most of them are friends off the ice, silly. Fighting is just part o the game; a way to send a message or turn momentum if nothing else is working. Just enjoy it with the rest of the game, ok?

Wow! Get out of my head! I go to hockey games and think the same thing. We should make a date to meet at a game sometime.

Not everyone likes coffee (like me).
BTW I vaguely recall this quesiton being asked before as Flames Fan pointed out, but I'll leave that investigation up to someone else.
