Yes. Unfortuantely you can't ever know what it is.
For example people accept the universe is real but we are limited by our perceptions. When humans observe particles they can act as waves or as matter depending on if we are observing or not. This does not dismiss reality it simply means that reality can change. So, whatever reality may be you are left with only your perceptions and that is your reality.
Is it all a dream (or someone else's dream) or a giant hologram program? Imagine asking a fish to explain to you the properties of water and you may start to see how we view reality.
Just my two cents,

For centuries mystics have talked of the unreality of matter. Now Quantum mechanics researchers are coming to the same conclusion. I fall on the side of the mystics and am happy to see science finally catching up.

You have to take that on Faith. If you would believe the Christians it is quite possible to accept their God created everything 1 millisecond ago and might stop everything in 30 seconds.

Reallity is perception. Our perception is based on our experience. Since we all have different experiences, we all have our own specific perception. So, is anything real? Only our individual reality. Hows that for vague!

God Himself wrote the Ten Commandments. You could say that they are real. And if they are real then the slap on the hand is real. The Bible ( not me ) say that the slap is Hell.
If all this is true and there is evidence to the fact. We all may want to seek Godly sorrow, true repents, and a Savor ( Jesus ).

Depends on your perception. What we consider "real" is really a holographic experiment that we agreed to participate in.

Yes, it has to be because if you believe the statement "nothing is real" wouldn't that statement have to be real?
