Wow, it's hard to pick. I loved him in Dracula and Scarlet Letter even though those are not what I would call great films. He's played so many characters like Sid Vicious, Lee Harvey Oswald, even Beethoven! He's awesome.
And seriously, I don't gush over many actors. It would be nice to see him get a great role in a great film and win an Oscar.

If I had to pick one that he really stood out in.(all were good in my opinion) SID & NANCY....he was unreal in that movie!! Excellent job!! I don't think I saw a bad movie with him in it!! Even SID's mom was impressed with his performance,so much so she gave him the "padlock" chain/necklace SID used to wear...Gary Oldman=very talented and comitted to every role he plays....NICE!!!

tough question....
his performance in True Romance is a complete 360 from who he is, he did an excellent job in that.
in the Scarlett Letter he was good too.
