High waisted, poorly fitted jeans are called "mommy jeans". People don’t want to get hair cuts that will make them look like "soccer moms" or drive cars that look like "mom cars". What does that mean? It seems people think that if you're a mother you are matronly, less stylish or drive a certain type of car, etc. Where does this misconception about being a mother come from?

I love you for saying this. Sometimes I cringe and the looks I get when I tell people 'I'm a stay at home mom". They are shocked to find out that my favorite bands are White Stripes, Dresden Dolls, Modest Mouse...etc, that I wear 'cool' clothes and such.
It's like people assume you lose your personality because you have children. How terrible!
