My OB/GYN said we would wait to do the colposcopy and biopsy until after my pregnancy. Your doctor took a big risk performing this procedure on you. Why couldn't he/she wait until after you gave birth? I am guessing most likely you have HPV, and if the abnormal cells are left untreated they can turn into cervical cancer. So most likely the biopsy will indicate if you have cancer or not. But it can take years to develop cervical cancer so you probably should have gotten a second opinion before you allowed your doctor to do this. I don't feel doctors always know best.

Definately get it checked out with the colposcopy. The colposcopy itself is just an exam under a microscope, so that's always a little weird. If they decide to do a biopsy, you'll spot for a few days. But they biopsy your cervix, not your uterus, which is where the baby is. So there's no danger to your baby, or else they wouldn't do it. Men carry HPV as well. And it is treatable. However, they probably won't do any treatment until after you have the baby. The whole point of the biopsy is to see if the type of HPV you have is cancerous or not. Some types of HPV can lead to cancer, other types heal on their own. That's what the biopsy will determine. I've had two of them in the past year, then had the Gardisil shot, the next pap after that was clean and clear, no hpv! It's really no big deal to have a colposcopy. I would say to do it just to be sure it's not the cancerous type. Better safe than sorry - for your baby.

Most OB's will not do biopsies during pregnancy. Biopsy during pregnancy has a increased risk of infection, premature labor/birth and miscarriage. Colposcopies on the other hand are perfectly safe. If you are having problems with odors I wouldn't hesitate to call your OB. Colposcopy is very uncomfortable but there is no pain after.

Good luck with the results, but I'm surprised you had this done during pregnancy - in my hospital (I work in admin) these are usually delayed if a pregnancy is confirmed. If you're concerned at all phone the department where it was done and ask to speak to the colposcopy nurse or one of the doctors.

I had one ( the biopsy was on the outside of the uterus) and I wasn't so bad. I didn't hurt during but I did have a little pain after, It wasn't nothing that I couldn't handle or anything that didn't subside after a day or two.. (I played ka gloom on my cell phone during the procedure so I wouldnt focus on what was going on down there) No problems with odors or anything of that nature. No bleeding. No complications whatsoever.
You should be fine.

You could experience light to moderate cramping afterwards and you may have light bleeding. The odor that you're having could be old blood. It will go away. If the odor is foul (fish-like) call your doctor. You may need to have a follow-up appointment for an infection.

Most doctors WOULD NOT do a biopsy unless absolutely necessary during pregnancy. The colpo itself is ok, because this is just looking at the cervix with the vinegar solution.

I havent had one done during my pregnancy, just right before I concieved. But when I had mine done, they said a warning sign of infection would be if there was a foul odor.I would call the doctors and schedule an appointment. Any kind of infection during pregnancy is not good and needs treated. Good luck!

Yes I had to have one because my pap smear came back with a slight abnormality. That was just a couple of months ago and it was a little painful. Afterwards I was kinda sore. I was very nervous to but they said everything looked normal and they will have to do another one in my 3rd trimester to make sure. But a lot of people have abnormal pap smears for little things like a UTI. That happened to my cousin. Just relax and try to forget about it for now, everything will probobly be fine
