Try it out and see. My baby is 9 mo and I had to keep her on size 2 because she drinks too fast on 3 and spits up a lot more because of this. Also, Avent makes nipples that have a control valve that I think works by how the baby sucks. So the harder they suck the more comes out. I don't remember exactly how it works but that is basically the idea. My friend tried this with her son and she loves it.

RE:
Avent nipple sizes?
My son will be 3 months on Friday and I am wondering if I should switch to the size 3. He seems to be taking the 2 pretty slow and maybe I should upgrade. He is a big baby well over 13 lbs.
When did you upgrade?

I haven't been able to get the size 3 around here...they aren't in stock at Target, so i havent tried them. My daughter is 3 1/2 months and on a size 2. She JUST upgraded to that in the last few weeks. She's a very "clean" eater- hardly dribbles at all-- and i think that's partially why-- its not filling up in her mouth and shes not having trouble keeping up. She also has only spit up twice since we've had her, and I'm afraid to mess with something that good!!
You can buy one package (they are only like $4) of two nipples and see if he keeps up okay. I tried the variable nipples (she hated them) and a size 4, but that was way too fast. You can tell if he has trouble-- lots of slurping and dribbling.
Also, they say the reccomended age on them. I think it says 3+ months, so you're just now at the bare minimum.

I moved my son up to the size 3 right around 3 months. He's 4 and a half months now and weighs 16 pounds (a big boy!). He was eating slowly on the size 2 and now he's less frustrated and enjoying his food more. Give it a try, but remember it'll take him a couple of days to get used to the faster flow.

Just buy some and try them. It doesnt matter when, or what age, if he gets too much and coughs on it put the old nipples back on and try the others later. You'll use them eventually.

If it's taking him more than 20 minutes to finish a bottle, it's probably time to switch to the next level. That's what I did for our kids.

my son is a yr old and i only just recently upgraded to number 3! 13lb isnt that big for a 3 mth old. maybe you should stay on number 2 for a little while longer maybe he just isnt that hungry that he wants to gulp his food down. also you might give him belly ache if he takes it too fast. there should be i little leaflet in with the teats to tell you what age they are suitable for.
