Is it cool or naff? It also inevitably gets abbreviated to Baz or Bazza - is that better or worse?

If you're considering the name for a newborn think about how it'll sound when added to the last name. For example Barry Kerry not the coolest of names. Baz is not a bad abbreviation but it could turn into 'who's the baz?' again not cool.

It's the person, not the name. I have a good friend named Barry and I love him to pieces! Baz or Bazza would seem weird to me.

its a bit naff. turn it into a baz then you have got the complete opposite. the image of a barry is a wet, dull bloke, the image of a baz is a chav car thief of 17 yr old!

I can't hear that name without thinking of that scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the little boy has just been abducted by the aliens and the mom is running out of her house after the UFO screaming "Barry! Barry! Baaaaaarrrrrrryyyyyy!"

Not for a baby surely, and the abbreviations are definitely worse. Think Barry Manilow, even though i like his music don't like the name.
