Small government WHICH allows the corporations and wealthy to have power over us.

Why do repubs not want a government keeping the corporations and elite policed so that they do not abuse the people.
I agree that government can be corrupt but we CAN elect a new one unless they are in the pockets of the corps.

The greatest disagreement i have, is why do you not support a larger government that takes from the elite and helps the poor.

Isnt that christian? Should a person feel guilty driving 100k car and a 300k house when there are so many people in need?

Our government is 'subservient' to the business elite, so elected officials logically will not police them--they don't even see it as abuse. That's why you see this incestual relationship between high ranking government officials and heads of corporations or lobbyists(track Rumsfeld's career for example).

For all the conservative hot air regarding 'small' government, republicans actually favor large government-as long as it helps out elite business interests and not you. Of course they tell us big government is not the answer, knowing perfectly well most Americans are unaware of the fleecing going on behind the scenes. They bank on mass ignorance.

With regard to big gov't vs. big corporations-at least the government has to answer to the people once in awhile--thanks to the media outlets which they now own, large corporations are completely unaccountable.

People, Christian or otherwise, typically don't feel guilty about their rank materialism because they think their wealth is a *one man show.* They don't understand their wealth is made possible indirectly by a variety of (socialist) structures..public education, roads, police, legal system...all of which are funded to a minimum and under constant attack in the name of 'lower taxes.' Let's not forget too, that the poor are also consumers--the Waltons would not be where they are today without the millions of working poor who shop in their stores.

Sorry, your question caught my eye when it was posted, but I've been busy making money since then (and of course spending it), so I've just now gotten around to answering.

Is there a republican worldview? There are eight candidates right now whose opinions on everything range from left to right. Same with the democrats. Frankly, Guiliani and Clinton have more in common than Guiliani has with any other republican candidate.

That being said, I don't want to appear dense and miss the jest of your question which I interpret as being one that replaces the word "republican" with "conservative". If this is so, then yes, most of what you said is true.

Is your question whether Christians should feel guilty driving 100K cars? I don't know should they? Last year, the average church going Christian gave $10,000 per household to mission projects. These projects directly affect poverty stricken communities. I'm thinking nahhh, not so much I feel guilty driving my $20K car (hummm, not quite the 100K - maybe I need to ask the big man for a raise??)

Yes, we (Christians) believe in a church body, forgiveness & we "should" love our enemy. However, when we become a Christian, our "humanness" is still with us. It is just as hard for us to forgive someone as it is for a non-christian.

Yes, corporately, I would say if you plan on having sex, then it comes with the whole package. This is not to say there haven't been those that have put the cart before the horse.

I don't think there is a "Christian" view for war. Pretty much what you think about that is between you and God.

Same with Death Penalty. Personally, I'm for frying them instead of paying for them to rot in prison for the next 50 years, but whatever. I understand on a personal note that if I actually knew someone who faced the death penalty, I would probably sing a different tune. This, my dear, is called hipocrasy.

Are you freaking KIDDING me on the policing of corporations?? Why do we NOT want government policed? Do you really think you can elect a new government? Are you that naive? Who do you think is corrupting the government? Is it other senators/congressmen, etc that are elected? Hello? NO, it's the lobbiest's and kingmakers and the fringe that AREN'T elected that are profitting most from all this. Don't kid yourself if you think changing names on a ballot will change ANYTHING!

Please don't get hung up on this or that and really examine what you might want in your government. I don't think you'll get it with either party. I personally think the whole system needs an overhaul.

No. Government entities (throughout the history of mankind) are responsible for far greater abuses of power and exploitation than any private corporation. Government is not the solution. Remember Hurricane Katrina? The government entities involved couldn't get their act together. Private companies (like the dreaded Walmart) used their state of the art supply chain systems to get needed products to the devastated sites within 24-48 hours and (gasp!) they even donated a lot of supplies to victims and those working on rescue/recovery missions. Private charities also do far more good for the money than any government entity. Even the US government in a capitalist society is grossly inefficient and ineffective in delivering anything of value to those in need. If you look to the government to be responsible for everyone's well-being, be prepared to give up the very freedom that our Founding Fathers risked their lives to attain for us.

The dreaded "elite" you speak of do more good through their charitable donations and foundations than all of the government combined. (and those nasty Republicans tend to donate a substantially higher amounts to charity than liberals with comparable income levels).

I agree with you. The hypocrisy of the right is shocking really.
I have found the religious nuts to be less generous than non religious folks.

I have more faith in the government than I do with business. I am a graduate MBA student. Businesses are in business to make money. They do not exist for altruistic purposes. Governments exist for the people. They have altruistic purposes. What the government does is a benefit for all people or it should be. WE the people need to get our act together and make our voices heard. We have to reunite because right now the corporations have succeeded in dividing us to our own peril. It's not propaganda. It is the truth if you can see the reality of our situation. You do not even have to look hard for the truth. You just have to have open eyes and the ability to reason.

I am not a fan of the Republican way of thinking, but saying that people should feel guilty for what they have is ridiculous! I am a single mom that works 2 jobs and goes to school in order to further myself and my child. I don't expect anyone to feel guilty because they have more than I do. I don't feel guilty because I have more than others.

No. It isn't.

I believe that the core value of the Republican party is economic liberalization.

I believe that church issues like abortion have received lip-service in recent years and that is really all they merit as far as government is concerned.

Tying Republicans to the church is like tying a man's positions to that of his red-headed stepchild.

Incidentally, the Democrat party has more than its fair share of hypocrisy when it comes to liberty. Note their support for abusing the First Amendment via CFR and 'fairness doctrine'.

Those who have gained money and material things always have the same answer: "I work hard for my money. I deserve to pamper myself! Why should I share my success with those who haven't work as hard as I have, haven't had the breaks I've had, and haven't got the drive or intelligence I have?"
Those who are war-mongers always have the same reply: "We have to fight to keep the peace. If we don't destroy our enemies, they will surely destroy us. We must keep our enemies at bay, or they will invade our borders and ruin our country!" Of course, they will send others to do their dirty work; they are too rich, too pampered, and too "busy" to fight their own battles.
Those who are critical of social welfare programs always have the same answer: "Why should the government give my money to a lazy welfare recipient who will just have more illegitimate kids and need more welfare?" Yet, these same people support corporate welfare in the form of tax incentives, abatements, subsidies and bail-outs, which costs American taxpayers hundreds of billions more than all the social welfare programs combined.
"Family values" are espoused by the conservative rich and powerful, yet not practiced nearly as stringently as they would lead you to believe. While Republicans spent hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars trying to demean Bill Clinton for having an extra-marital sexual affair with another consenting adult, many of these same holier-than-thou 'honorable men' were going back to their Capitol Hill offices after the daily proceedings and seducing underage Congressional pages or carrying on their own dalliances with secretaries, administrative assistants and others - other than their spouse.
Too many people in this nation subscribe to the Ronald Reagan philosophy of "All for One...ME!" instead of following the mandate in the preamble of our U.S. Constitution which suggests that we "promote the general welfare..." -RKO- 08/21/07

Funny, isn't it? How the only people who, once they research it, think that American-capitalism is moral and just are the ones who've profited from it?

I don't geel guilty for driving and owning many 100k cars. Or multiple houses and boats. I earned my money. Why should I have to spread it around to those who do not want to earn it, but want free handouts?
