We never used anything but regular detergent. In fact, ive never known anyone who had to use dreft or free.
I think its a waste of time and money.

I bought one bottle of dreft just incase when my baby was born he had very sensitive skin all of his newborn clothes would be ok. However he seems to be fine and has never had a reaction to anything so once my dreft bottle was gone I was going to switch over to Tide (that's what I use on the rest of our clothes) but then someone bought me a bottle of All Baby detergent so now I'm using that but once its gone I'm going back to Tide. I think Dreft is good if your child has sensitive skin, if not why waste the extra money!

Just use any detergent that is dye/scent free. You really should wash everything. From my lamaze class, there was one mother who didn't think it was necessary to pre-wash with gentle detergent, and her baby had a rash before they even left the hospital! And imagine having to do all that laundry when you are just home from the hospital.... Receiving blankets come in handy for swaddling and also work well as a burp cloth in a pinch. So, yes it would be good to have a couple packs of those. Congrats!

I also have exzema and I use all with out any smells to it. I have a 9 mo. old. The doctor told me that it actually is the smells in the soap not the chemicals that affect the baby. I asked my doctor because like you I can not aford dreft either. My son has not seemed to have any problems with all without the fragrances and I have used it since he was born. Or use dawn dish soap that worked for us when we ran out of laundry soap and didn't have the money to buy any for a few days. You will just have to try and see what works for your baby but remember to use fregrance free soap.

I used Tide Free because I had a free sample, but when it ran out, I switched back to regular generic detergent. Dreft is expensive and you probably don't need it unless your baby is super sensitive and having an allergic reaction.

I have a high efficiency (HE) washer so I need to use special HE detergent and Dreft doesn't sell it.
I buy whatever dye free is on sale-I have Tide Free in the laundry room now.

we always had dreft for my little sisters because they were really sensitive (skin) when they were little tiny's.. but i think arm and hammer or tide would be okay too.. just try it.. if your baby gets a rash or something, then you'll know that you need to buy some dreft! it's really not too expensive.. just get it at wal-mart or target.. never buy that stuff in a grocery store!!! you'll go broke for sure!
i don't know if you can, but i'd recommend that you use gain.. i use gain with the "touch of ___" whatever scent, and i really love it and my fiance, who has issues with certain detergents, is fine with it! and it smells great! i think it'd be gentle enough for a baby too.... good luck & congrats!

I did for the initial wash-- then after my son was born I would wash a few things with my detergent that I use to see if he had any type of allergic reaction(which he didn't)-- then I started washing all of his stuff with my detergent. I still wash his clothes separate than mine, unless its a few small things.. They make small bottles of dreft-- and you can get coupons online--You can always use the tide! Good luck!

we use ddetergent that doesnt have any fragrances... thats all you really need. I think its tide. DOnt worry about the dreft, they only make it because the baby buisness is a really booming industry. And we parents worry a lot and fall for everything they say!

You should just fine as long as you buy a hypoallergenic laundry detergent.
We used Dreft with our boys...but it wasn't really something I conscious decided to do :) We received a few HUGE bottles of liquid dreft as baby shower gifts and it smells soooo good that I started buying it after we used up the gift bottles. (I even use it on mine and my husband's clothes lol...what can I say, I'm addicted!)
