A prism is able to break natural white light into all the colours of the spectrum. Your diagram is probably illustrating this. Normally the prism would be triangular and the diagram will probably show a beam of light striking it at an angle with a multi-coloured beam comprising of the seven colours of the spectrum coming out of the other side at an angle. The colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue indigo and violet and can be remembered by the phrase 'Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain.

The colours are what constitutes light.
Clear daylight is made up of 7 definite visible light wave lengths giving seven seperate colours which are visible although the prism does not show the invisible spectrum of light.
The colours are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
At each end of the visible spectrum there are two invisible bands which are harmful to human skin and eyes. These are Ultra Violet and Infra Red.
The way to remember the colours is Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain this gives the colours intitial letters and reminds you of them.
The rainbow is a graphical and easy to remember similar natural phenomenom to the prism the principle of refracting light. The sunlight shines through the raindrops and is refracted and then reflected back to earth off the clouds.
Interestingly you rarely see lighning and rainbows at the same time or in the same geographical precipitation (rain storm).

Did you pay attention in class or are teachers just getting lazy?
White light is compiled of all colours. Passing white light trough a prism diffracts the different wave lengths of light by different amounts giving a spectral output.
The explanation for why would suggest that the speed of light is not a constant and there by undermine the theory of relativity. or that physics teachers lie.

Hello - White thing probably a light source (light bulb). Light passes through prism and colours of the spectrum are produced. OK?

Sound like how a glass prism can split light up so you can see the spectrum its made up from. I hate answering these question because there is always someone smarter than me so its pointless even wasting my time! anyway good luck at school!

It is probably showing how white light is made up of all colors of the rainbow. A prism is the thing that breaks white light into the colors that make it (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.)
