because people made up this myth.

Elephants are fairly indifferent to mice actually.

I'm not sure they actually are scared of mice - it may be just a myth encouraged by the film, Dumbo. Any mice found in the African deserts or Indian jungles (elephant habitat) would be **** scared of anything as massive as an elephant and would probably hide before they were trampled. From an elephant point of view, I don't think they'd give something as tiny as a mouse a second look - assuming, of course, they even noticed them from such an elevated perspective

It's just an urban myth.Elephants are usually scared of everything that moves...an elephant scared of a mouce is just a Looney Toonz invention for better comedy.About 1/3 of the human population is scared of mice...and about 1 of 10 elephants are scared of mice.

Good luck on your search!May the Force be with you;)

Eliphants are not scared of mice. It was something someone made up as if to show that such a big powerfull animal could be scared of something so small. But its not a fact. They have carried out tests and everything and let mice run accross the eliphants path and it didnt flinch. Its just one of these myths!

hope ive helpped!

Simple, they aren't. This is a myth made popular in old cartoons. Elephants are not afraid of mice running up their trunks. If one ever did the elephant would easily blow it back out...rather like an air powered rodent cannon.

They are not. That is a myth. I saw a show where they had mice on the floor around an elephant, and even crawling on its trunk, and the elephant just ignored them.

I can tell you that...it's animal psychology. The elephant is a big lumbering slow animal. The mouse is a spry quick rodent and will gnaw and bite. The elephant knows it cannot outspeed the mouse and takes fright. Its the same when you sit on the grass having a picnic...suddenly a big black spider scuttles on your groundsheet, what would you do. Would you say 'shoo' or scream.?

EDWARD W's theory is fairly logical but the truth is it doesn't happen. The elephant is constantly surrounded by flies and other insects and its diet is so demanding that it doesn't have time to be bothered by such small animals. They have genuine predators to be worried about, such as lions.
