Firewire is a hardware standard.

Also known a iLink (by Sony) and IEE 1394 it is availble on a range of computers.

If your one does not have it built in, then you can get Firewire PCI cards for desktops and PC cards for laptops.

The JBL series FS740 is the monitor not the computer.

Generally for video transfer you need a reasonably fast processor. The main thing is to do nothing else while it transfers, otherwise Windows may drop bits of the transfer.

For editing, a fast CPU (or a lot of patience) and lots of memory.

No, firewire is the connection type (like usb), you can use firewire with windows too, look on your computer for a i.Link or 1394 port, if you have a desktop computer and it does not have firewire connector you can take it to a repair shop and ask them to add a card so you have firewire connectors. If you have a laptop you can go and shop a pcmcia card just make sure it fits the laptop.

Nope, but you'll need to get a card put in your computer if it doesn't already have the port.
