Thats nasty!! I went to one of my friend's houses and he was making sandwiches on his nasty countertop no plate nothing just right there. The bread had some koolaid on it. His wife and son were like "How come you don't want to eat a sandwich?" I was all looking around their apartment and stepping over clothes and everything else in their apartment it was really nasty I was all "I gotta go! Talk to you later!"

It depends on just how discusting their desk is.
You really don't know about the other things. Office politics can be pretty cruel.
It also depends on wether or not you wanted to maintain a working relationship with this person. If it is your boss and you have to be watched whil you load your plate then you might have to take something politically.
I would probably take something if I was being watched and I knew the other facts. Doesn't mean to you have to eat it.
Use slight of hand and if you really can't eat it but can't avoid taking some just accidentally mix the remains on your plate and then, when you are done, throw out the plate.
If it is in a caserole dish and has been cooked then you are probably safe.
It was said, when I worked at a pizza place years ago, "All hail the oven, the oven kills all." Germs go away with high heat except for in Pork
Cake may be safe unless it is obvious that they put their fingers in it!
There are just so many variables. I surely would not make a scene but if you are asking this, I really don't need to tell you that!!
Good luck.

Not a chance in hell. My mother hired this lady to clean her house for a while; well one time when this lady had finished cleaning the bathroom, my mother happened to see her NOT wash her hands and then see the cleaning lady grab her sandwich and eat.
A week or so later, this lady made a fresh pie for my mom; my mom was thankful of course, but as soon as the lady left the house, into the trash can the pie went.
Moral of the story: Don't eat food from people you suspect don't wash their hands. I wouldn't.

I almost never eat at pot luck lunches unless I know the other people very well. some people just creep me out and if I am leery about shaking their hand I sure am not going to eat their food. Maybe just put some of the food on your plate and then throw it away when they are not looking. Just eat what you brought and say you are full. LOL good luck

if the desk and home are disgusting as in dirty dirty as in spilled foods left out , 3 days of dirty dishes pet feces, never vacumed or dusted etc. then no. if its just cluttered well thats a different story. as for the person who doesn't wash well that is just plain f'n sick. and no chance would i eat their food. a cake is still touched while frosting after its cooked so its not like the bacteria will cook off. ewe gross

I've worked with someone like that. She would throw her hands under the sink with water for like a second - just like a little kid being told to wash up that didn't want to!
I would see her sometimes after she'd exit a stall, and watch in dismay as she marched right out of the bathroom without washing at all.
No, I wouldn't eat anything she/he brought unless it was store-bought.
You have to look out for your health and well-being too!

if it's a large enough group, you could likely get away without sampling everyone's food. In a smaller group, if it's noticable, I'd likely take a small spoon of the "suspect" item, but manage to shuffle it under my chicken bones or into a folded napkin to be tossed into the garbage. Same story with the cake..... but I'm diabetic, so I have a built in excuse!

NO WAY. Put a tiny bit on your plate to be polite, but don't eat it. I cringe at our church potlucks. Definitely why people should PRAY over their meals. : )

No! ... Their desk being messy is one thing, but not washing their hands in the restroom is a totally different matter.

No...I do not like pot lucks, you never know how cleanly people are. We would hope everyone washes their utensils and hands before cooking, but one never knows. Unless your food comes from someone accredited, don't eat it without fear of cleanliness.
