I'm in my twenties and haven't had a period in over 7 months. I am not on anything that would prevent me from getting one and don't have an eating disorder. Everyone tells me it's bad not to get one. Why?

Because it's normal to get your period regularly. Mine was behaving strangely, and I'm lucky I went to the doc, 'cause I have PCOS. I never would have known if I'd ignored it.

Let's put it another way! Everyone has fingernails, 10 of 'em, that's the normal state of life. Say one day, all of yours fell off. Would you go to the doctor? I bet you'd go at a run! Losing your nails may not kill you, and may not be due to medicines or an eating disorder---but it's a SYMPTOM of something going wrong.

Just like that example, not having a period regularly is an abnormal state of affairs. It indicates something is wrong with your body, and you need to go find out what that is. If nothing else, not bleeding regularly can lead to increased risk of endometrial cancer, if your body is building up the layer (hoping you'd get pregnant) and then not shedding it every month.

Go see your gyno, if you're in your 20s, you need to go anyway! Good luck.

You could have a Pituatary Adenoma. You need to go to the doctor. You need the estrogen for your heart and to prevent Osteoporosis.. GO TO THE DR.

It cleanses your body out, and if you dont get a period that usually means something isnt right you should get checked by the doctor.

1. You could be pregnant (not necessarily you, but if you miss a period you may be pregnant).

2. Something could be wrong with your reproductive organs. This is very important for those who still want children.

Are you pregnant? Are you taking birth control pills? It really isn't normal NOT to have your period if not for these reasons. You really should go see a doctor about this.

Firstly because if you don't have periods, it means you're not ovulating, which means you can't get pregnant.

But in the long term, the fact that you're not having periods means that the level of oestrogen in your body is too low, which puts you at risk of osteoporosis (thin bones which fracture easily) later in life.
