You are. You hold them by the tail and slide them down your throat head first. Don't bite, just try to swallow whole, that all depends on the size of the newt of course but most are small enough.
We had a barrel of newts in the back garden when I was little so there was always a plentiful supply. I wasn't allowed more than ten a day though ...... spoilsport parents ... actually, I think it was my brother who kept moaning that his pets were vanishing.

Head off, roast in the oven on gas mark 5 for 25 to 30 mins, sprinkle with salt and pepper and there you go.
