regardless of why we are in Iraq, we are there now and for those who want immediate withdrawal to save iraqi lives, do you think the average iraqi will be better off with Iran's influence taking charge in Iraq? or do you think Iraq will be free from Iran's influence? please state a thoughtful civil answer as i am attempting to find a consensus of thoughts.

upon relfection you are correct in that by the wording i have given my opinon and i appologize for that. i do feel that this is a broader issue than 'just' iraq and i guess that showed thru.
thanks to all who have responded in a thoughtful manner.

If the liberals/Democrats are correct that we are just standing in the middle of a civil war, how could the locals be better off if we left? Now I'll give the Dem's the benefit of the doubt that is soley the Iraqi's that are creating this civil war. If the coalition left whom ever doesn't control the oil resources will ignite them. This is both tactically & strategically wise. The finances from the oil would be used to buy weapons for the civil war.

I don't think you'll get a concensus because this is such a divisive issue. The wording of your question and the link to the article about Iranian barbarism suggest your agenda is to discredit one position, not to collect opinions in an objective manner.
You suggest that Iran will definitely take over Iraq if US and British troops leave, but that's hardly a foregone conclusion.

If we leave that region is toast...
Remember, The DEMS voted to go in as well..
They are trying to garner votes with the "Pull the troops out" strategy...
When this thing was voted, they had the SAME intel Bush had to make his decision on..
Bottom line, we leave, and it becomes an epi center of terror strikes all around the world..
We are DOING great things there, but the press only reports what gets them ratings and readership..
Ask the troops that are making a difference!
Quit being ignorant, support your troops and the cause, and lets make it right for this country...

There is no easy answer to your question as we can all see by this administrations own struggles with the dilemma they got us into. The question you should be asking is the US going to invade Iran to take that problem away. It's beginning to look more and more like this is the direction it's taking. Iran is arming up as we speak because they are in fear of the same thing.

Lady Shondra, it would be a nightmare, it take from someone who has been there, if we just cut and ran right now, it would empower our enemies, bring instability to an already volatile region and Iran and Osama, would have another to use as Training centers, for terrorists, and a safe haven. Then when they go back on the offensive and bring the fight back on U.S. Soil, the left wing nuts will blame Bush for leaving early. Bush is in a no-win-situation

What will probably happen whenever we do leave is an actual full-scale civil war which will eventually result in three nations, one Sunni, one Shiite and one Kurdish. Once the dust settles, they'll be better off than they are now. Until then, it'll be miserable.
