But I want to upgrade to 2GB so I can make Vista run better. I have no clue about RAM stuff so can someone help me out please? How much does it cost? Would it be better if I just got a laptop with the same brand, but a higher model # and RAM, for $170 more?

Gotta weigh the benefits. Can you find 1GB more of RAM for < 170$? If so do you think the amount that you'll save will be worth the effort? Installing RAM into some laptops requires you to lift up the keyboard and it's a real pain, other's just have a flap on the bottom and you just wedge it and snap it in place. It changes per laptop. I'd go in and check out the model. Also ones that are more expensive might contain more room for RAM (greater expandability for the future).

If possible can you link the other laptop?

Circuit city can add it in the store when you buy it. Or you can go to www.newegg.com and look for this type of RAM: 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) under LAPTOP MEMORY. There is a small door un the bottom of the laptop that is removeable and is where your RAM stick is located. Make sure that the laptop has either 1 stick of 1gb memory or 2 512mb memory. Both are the same but you probably only have 2 slots. What this means is you will have to but 2 sticks of 1gb to equal 2gb if it has 2x512mb sticks.

Very good laptop for the $$$.

it really isn't recommended to tamper with the insides of your computer unless you know what you're doing. When you buy your computer, always make sure you understand your warranty; some of them are voided if you add or take out anything from your computer, sometimes if you just open it up. If you're willing to take that risk with the warranty, but you're not so sure about putting RAM inside, you can buy RAM from a local computer store and ask them to install. If you know someone there, or have a relative or friend that you trust, ask them to show you how to put the RAM in.

well first you have to find out what RAM your computer supports then you have to fit it into the RAM slots inside. (there are about 3/4 and there will be a RAM card in already), just don't mess around with it and make sure it's in place properly.
If you don't know what youo are doing get somone to do it for you. Else you could make a BIG MISTAKE like I did.

I definately think you should just get the 2 GB laptop. New RAM to put in will be proibabily arround $100, but the hard part (assuming you have little to no computer hardware expirence) is installing it. You can try installing it yourself, but if you can't get it, it may end up costing you more when you have to take it in to be worked on.

Yeah, probably cheaper to upgrade if its only $170 more.
