When I saw this, I thought of two things.
There was a Bert and Ernie segment where Bert is sleeping in a chair and Ernie is trying to be quiet during Bert's nap...they put some eyelids over Bert's eyes and it freaked me out when I was a kid. I had to cover my eyes until that segment was over.
The other character that I found scary was Frazzle, he was a big orange monster with yellow eyes, a big black unibrow, big jagged teeth and his tongue was always hanging out. He never spoke, he just growled and screamed....scary.

I didn't find any of them scary. I enjoyed all of them (except Elmo, who still drives me up a frickin' wall and now he's everywhere). The Yip-yip martians are my favorite.
