how do I set the valve lash on a 14.5 hp B&S engine and what do they set on?

The valve clearance is .003 to .005 inches cold. If it is an overhead valve engine you have to remove the valve covers and there will be ajusters with lock nuts. If is a flat head you have to remove material from the bottom of the valve stem.

at the base of the push rod there should be a nut " like fitting this will move up and down, [adjusts the push rod] set valve clearance at 15 to 30 thousands, , or goto briggs and stratton.com
