i had it towed to a nearby shop. they called with a $675 quote for parts and labor to replace brakelines. i know enough to realize they are thieves and that there is no way all my lines went at once. what would a reasonable estimate as to what it should really cost to fix?

You are correct in your thinking. The metal lines are not expensive and to replace or repair should be around $85.00 including bleeding the system after the repair is made. I would look for a different shop. Not all shops are created equal....

There are so many crooked brake and transmission specialty shops out there... If you have a Les Schwab Tire center near you, try them. Do at least get a second opinion, and check with your local Better Business Bureau for complaints regarding any shop you choose. It may also be helpful to get a recommendation from a friend who has had to get brake work done.

Brakelines shouldn't cost that much.

Same thing I would have done.

All the lines that are bad or look bad, need to be replaced.

My shop is liable for your safety after you leave, I dont let anything out without the owner at least being aware and signing off that they dont want it fixed.

You should have gotten a repair quote before work started, and approved any other problems before they were fixed.

they are trying to get you fix only the broken line and at the same time fix the ones that look bad or rusty remember your brakes are what you need to stop and keep yourself alive while driving
