When I first read about chatting via the internet, I thought, how crazy is that ? Talking to strangers using a keyboard ! That'll never catch on ! How wrong I was....I love this form of communication. One great thing, for me, is that when you are a shy type of person, you get "equal time" during the course on an internet chat. The other person can't dominate the conversation. And the anonymity means that you can open up and express yourself without having to worry about the other person's perception of you. To me, its perfect.

Hopefully we're all old enough here to know the rules of safety. In the Seniors section, we have a great bunch of people.

I remember when AOL first came out. Not understanding a few things, when I saw the next month's phone bill, I could have killed my husband! He didn't realize the hours he spent chatting with others was racking up a huge bill. I understood the excitement of something new, though.

Up until about a year or so ago, I was on a site for the Sweet Potato Queens. Made a lot of terrific friends there, too. Unfortunately, a few ruined it for all and the chat part of the site was taken down.

I am probably a little old to worry about talking to strangers...if you don't talk to strangers, you will never have new friends....The "don't talk to strangers" is really for little girls and boys, isn't it? I am not little by any stretch of the word, and I suspect that you are not naive, by any stretch of the word. I don't like candy, so the "want a piece of chocolate" bit is not going to work on me, but on the other hand, perhaps "want a nice diamond" would work on others.....who knows. Let me know after you are asked :-)
On the otherhand, with all this Internet stuff, I suppose we all love to pour our hearts out occasionally to a total stranger...It is very easy to write deep thoughts, yet so hard to express them with direct conversation...strange, isn't it?

Never, but as I have said before in an answer, years ago I wouldn't talk to a stranger, now I've never met a stranger, if you know what I mean. I now enjoy talking to strangers in stores, doctors offices, etc.,but the best thing is now I can talk to strangers in the comforts of my home. I love it.

It doesn't matter where I am... people always talk to me. My mama is the same way. We use to work away from home and I would go to the laundry mat to do our clothes. Never failed. Somebody is going to tell me their life story. I even tried to not make eye contact. Doesn't work. I had someone call my house yesterday and ask for my son in law. After 30 minutes.(he doesn't live here any longer) I know more about this woman than I care to. So see it even works over the phone. I must have - I care- written on my fore head somewhere. It really gets funny after awhile.

I wouldn't be talking to strangers on YA if I couldn't remain anonymous. I'm polite to real live strangers but I keep my distance and certainly do not confide in them.

I think the advice from my parents on to "Never speak to strangers" kept me safe during my childhood.

talking to strangers is something that I have never had a problems with. Of course a person has to use common sense, but at one time or another. every one was a stranger until you got to know them.

I have always been the backward type. Sort of shy and not much of a conversationalist. I was amazed when I found YA, that I could/would answer and ask questions, and feel quite comfortable.
