I've been on plenty of interviews, but not too many internal interviews. The standard "suit and tie" seems a bit much for me, especially since I already know my interviewer very well and a suit-n-tie would clash with the existing office attire.

This is for an IT manager level position working under the VP of IT. What do you think?

You only have one chance to make a good first impression. Most interview books claim that you should dress a little above what everyone in the office is wearing. If it's a casual office then dress pants, a clean and pressed long sleeves dress shirt should do the trick sans the tie. If you see others wearing suits in the office then you should too. Remember what you wear when you get the job is totally different, right now you're trying to get the job.

Make sure there is no change or keys in your pocket that jingle, I heard that can be annoying and distracting and even disqualify you from being reconsidered. Don't wear cologne, you never know if your interviewer is illergic to perfume/cologne, and if they aren't then you dont' want theirs mixing with yours it becomes over whelming. Make sure your shoes are clean and spotless as well as your clothes. Have a hard copy of your resume in a folder to hand to your interviewer even if you've emailed over a copy before hand, most have either misplaced it or written a lot of notes on the emailed copy, also it gives them something clean and presentable to pass on to their supervisors etc.

A firm handshake and good eye contact and practiced answers help, don't stutter or keep looking at the ground or give one word answers and no matter how much you hated your last boss or company only say nice things.

P.S. make sure your resume is on ONE page only, most recruiters or interviewers will not bother to read more than one page so you'll want all the relevent job information pertaining to that job immediately where they can see it.

Good luck. Try picking up "Job Interviewing for dummies" at your local book store, it has lots of good tips and interview questions.

positioned on a depressing fit, white shirt and a advantageous sturdy shade tie (purple or blue possibly). Conservative is larger. in my view i does not comprehend an Armani fit from one off the rack at JC Penneys. I merely comprehend while somebody is accessible in the workplace to interview that they are wearing a expert way. you in hassle-free terms have the only time to make a familiar impact. in case you "gown down" and don't look as in case you took the attempt and time to place forth a expert apperance then the HR individual will look down upon you. the thank you to make the interviewer not self extensive wide awake? gown impressive and that's that. I even have on no account been self extensive wide awake in an interview no count what a individual is wearing around the table from me. greater effective advice to you would be to coach for this interview. examine up on the business enterprise and locate out approximately it so which you will ask smart questions. practice solutions for the questions you comprehend they are going to ask (the place do you spot your self in 5 years, why you opt to artwork right here) so which you do not stumble while asked. in case you like a job badly then you definately could desire to be arranged for the beef of the interview. the way you look performs a great function in no count if or not you're employed, sure. yet what concerns is a expert visual charm not the label on the interior the jacket. end aggravating lots bearing directly to the garments and commence making waiting for the interview so which you will get this pastime.

Suit and tie. This job is at least important, or more so, than any of the other interviews you've been on.
