Yes you can you can even boot from another pc if you set it up from the bios to do so. I have a pc with loads of software on it plus several windows operating systems in folders when i do a customers machine i install the operating system from that computer and all relivent antivirus softwares.

Depends on your BIOS - mine can, others cannot.
Your BIOS needs to be able to create a USB connection without an OS being present so it has to have this as firmware on chip.

Yes!You may need to enable the USB bootup at your bios setting & save it,then computer can detect the USB ext harddrive automatically during restart......

yes you can.
If you hold down F8 or F10 (can never remember which one) at the screen when you start your computer, You will be given an option to boot from a device.
The machine will know you have a bootable device attached via the USB and let you you it.

Only if that option is available in your BIOS.
Many older BIOSes do not allow it. My motherboard, for instance, is a few years old, and doesn't allow booting from USB device.

If you tell your computer that that is where you want it to boot from then it will. Info should be in system folder.
