Im 37+ wks pregnant, I have been getting really sharp pains in my pelvic bone area, and they shoot down to my groin area. But when I read about contractions and braxton hicks they say that u feel them on top of ur belly and around, nothing ever comes out about the pelvic area. I told my Dr, who says its normal, so I don't really worry about it. Has anyone else felt pains like the one im feeling?

The pains you are feeling sounds like what happens as the baby's head presses down on your pelvic floor in preparation for delivery. Braxton-Hicks feels more like cramps or tightening, not sharp pains.

Lots of women have contractions before their water breaks. Unlike the movies, most labors DON'T start with water breaking.

What you're feeling is not Braxton Hicks. You are probably just having the normal pains you get as the baby is now huge and stretching every muscle and ligament to the limit. It is very common, and as your doctor already reassured you, very normal.

In answer to the question though, yes, you can have contractions before your water breaks - rupturing of membranes prior to labor beginning only happens in about 10-15% of women. Most of the time, contractions start long before your water breaks. And many women don't notice their mucous plug until labor begins too. But it can come out days or weeks before labor starts. It's highly variable.

Yes to the headline question...

As for what you're asking. Are they cramp like but only low? I asked my doctor a similar thing... he said they were normal and just more stretching, but not contractions or Braxton Hicks. Those two you will feel over the entire belly apparently. (Haven't felt them yet myself.) It could also be added pressure from the baby dropping.

But... only 12% of women have their water break before labor begins. And a good deal of women loose their mucus plugs at the beginning of labor. So... contractions are very much possible without the other two.

Best of luck to you! I'm not far behind.

I'm 33 wks and have been having those pains for about a week or so. I have had braxton hicks that started at about 17 wks. I call the pains in my grown "lightening in my croch" LOL!! They hurt. I haven't asked my dr. about them but I think it's just the baby pressing down. But to answer your question, yes you can have contractions before your water breaks. Most women don't get to experience their water breaking as they only have contractions. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.

it is very normal...your hips spread more the closer you get to your due date. This is what would cause those sharp pains. Many women do not have their water break before having contractions. Most of the time the doc has to break the water right before delivery. A lot of times your mucus plug doesn't come out until your water breaks either. I never lost my whole mucus plug or had my water break until 2 minutes before i was ready to push

Yes I felt like that at 38 weeks even before my mucus plug came out. It is normal. However, at 40 weeks my water never broke and I was actually in labor. The doctor had to break my water for me during labor.
