It is indeed Atlas.

He was one of the Titans.
He took part in the war of the Titans against the Olympians (the "followers" of Zeus).
When the Titans lost the war, Atlas was condemned to stand at the edge of the earth and hold up the sky on his shoulders, to prevent Gaia (the earth) and Uranos (the sky) to meet and mate again. They had fathered the Titans.

For the record, all who answered that Atlas holds up the world are incorrect. He holds up the heavens. It is not the map of the world depicted on the famous statue of Atlas, it is the Zodiac, which is the precise meaning of Atlas holding up the heavens. Atlas is credited with being the Titan in charge of the zodiac and astronomy, and his daughters the Hyads, Pleides help him by opening and closing the gates that certain zodiacal figures proceed through, thus marking the change of seasons.

The one who pointed out that Uranus was the God of the Sky gets partial credit, but Uranus was the 'fructifying' sky, whose rain and lightening impregnated the Earth below, though even this is based on his earlier identification as 'consort of Urania' an early form of the Queen of Heaven, and not because he was originally the Sky itself.

The Titans are from a different tradition which was suppressed by Argive and Hellene cultures, assimilated later.

While the Titan Atlas was sentanced to hold up the heavens for his part in the war between the gods and the Titans, Heracles required his aid and held up the sky for a brief period while Atlas aided him.
