The gvmt does not have to regulate our marriages. These are things that we can do for ourself.
We should be responsible by having a will, living will, durable power of attorney, while letting people we know our wishes in case we can't speak for ourselves.

Opposite sex marriage is very heavily supported. There are hundreds of laws giving certain rights to married couples. Gays want the same rights, and should have them, such as inheritance, hospital visitation rights, ability to get insurance through the workplace, etc etc.
Second class citizen status means that measures such as living wuills and civil unions are not always recognized, specially when one travels to a different state. Christian churches started performing gay weddings over 15 centuries ago. The govt must recognize full marriage rights if it is to live up to the goal of Liberty And Justice For All.

Hunny listen to me... gays don't have power yet. If gays had a voice then support wouldn't be neccissary. Breeders are in power so their marriages don't need to be supported. I got a thumbs down on this point earlier. If gays start out slow and call their marriages Unions, the odds are in gay favor. However going against the right wing and using their word marriage is an up hill battle that isn't going to be won. Get support of a gay union and those same right wingers will be more apt to agree. Go for gay marriage and you have peaceful nuns turning into gay bashers. I didn't explain myself well on the last question like this. In order to move forward... we need to move forward and to the left rather than trying to walk to the right through a brick wall. Compromise is Key and besides if a union is equal to marriage... why isn't that ok? I don't mean like seperate but equal, I mean like equal but equal. A circle is round... if you call it a circle or call it round it is the same. Let them have their circle and give us round.

Heterosexual marriages enjoy greater acceptance in the society, and offer legal as well as social benefits to the wedded couples. Sadly, same sex marriages are neither recognized legally nor given sanction by a large section of society. The reason we need to support the cause for recognition of homosexual marriages is because it allows us to live with the partner of our choice legally, and brings us at par with any married heterosexual couple. It is also a matter of people's belief in the institution of marriage - those who do, would not like to be denied their right just because they happen to love someone of the same sex.

I personally dont care about marriage. Its an idiotic concept in the first place, your making vows sure, but we've already seen based on the divorce rates the number of people who follow them. The only good thing about marriage is benefits.
However, we shouldnt be treated differently, and we should have equal rights about marriage. Even if its not called marriage, we deserve to have those benefits too.

Supported in the fact that marriage is a human right, not a heterosexual right.
There IS support for hetereosexual married couples. Families and local communities show support for the couple, there are Bridal Extravaganzas at convention centers, Honeymoon rates at hotels and resorts...shall I continue????

It needs to be supported so everyone can get the same rights -as anybody else, and be treated as equal. On a personal level, it shouldn't matter if you get the support from the entire world or not.

If there weren't so many rights attached to marriage, it wouldn't be an issue. But if you're in a long-term relationship and you're not married, you run into problems with literally hundreds of issues that a married straight couple will never face.

Because, BigNick, it's a natural given for straight people that when they grow up, they will be entitled to get married. NO ONE will tell them that their love is wrong, no one will tell them that they can't do something because of how they choose to live their life.
If you were the minority and couldn't do half of what the mainstream could do, how would you feel?
If you don't want to give your support, that's fine. But don't sit from afar and judge and think we've got it easy, because we haven't. I don't mean to be so harsh, but just think about everything that gets handed to you automatically. Now think about what your life would be like if you truly had to work HARD for it...

I don't get the whole same-sex marriage thing. Marriage sucks the life out of people. Why do we have to have it? Let the straight people keep it.
