July 31st its the non-waiver trade deadline. After that teams has 1 month to try to have players clear waivers and then they are able to trade them. Jeff Conine was put on waivers and nobody picked him up so they were able to trade him.

Conine the barbarian was a decent hitter at one time. The Muts can have him. He won't help one bit. He made it through because he cleared waivers. Nobody else wanted him enough to claim him.

He had to clear waivers. The trade deadline is the non waiver trade deadline meaning they do not have to clear the waiver wire to complete the trade.
