I interviewed with 1 other co-worker to a competiting company, i made it, he didnt. So word got out, at the same time, i took a 30 day leave of absence, my current employer called over to my future employer, (possibly planting bad seeds), inquiring to see if i was employed by them. They were hoping to see if i was working at a job while on a leave of absence, thus grounds for termination! I wasn't but am worried if my chances have been hurt at my future employer. Do i have grounds to make a complaint to anyone is my question about an overzealous manager?

Document all the information you have and contact a lawyer. What a creepy current employer you have ... good luck with your career change.

There is nothing whatsoever in law which would give you grounds for action against your current employer. Neither have you given any such grounds in your post.

If your new manager fires (or withdraws) the job offer simply on the fact that your current manager called to inquire (without any further information) then you have no legal grounds to pursue.

The ONLY way you would have a case of anything is if the current manager disparaged you in some way which directly caused the new manager to rescind the offer. Then you MIGHT have a case for interference with a business relationship .

However, if your current manager simply told the new manager that you were still employed that is fact and not actionable.

From the facts alone in your post, you have nothing.

Your current employer has violated your privacy rights. If the future company gave them any information without your authorization (in writing) then they are also violating it. Contact the future company and inquire as to what status this puts future emploment in. Laws now prevent employers (past or present) from giving much info except for the fact that you worked there at one time.
