Some babies get like this when they are teething others may just have a cold. There is nothing a doctor can do about a regular cold. My son did this for a while like almost 2 months. The doctors all said he was'nt sick and it would go away in time. sometimes it got so bad he could'nt breath. I used tylenol cold and cough 0.4ml (half of the 2year old dose) and it cleared up almost immediately. I told the doctors about it and they said it was fine if it worked. He was 4 months old at the time and its now 7 months old. Whenever he gets stuffy or coughs I give it to him and he gets better really quickly. You should also use a nasal aspirator on a regular basis so he does'nt choke on drainage. If his nose gets dry you can use the nose drops.

It is probably allergies. If you really feel that your doctor's diagnosis is wrong then you need to get a second opinion. You might think about other factors too that can cause these kinds of problems. Do you live in a city that has a lot of pollution? Does anyone smoke around your child? I have siblings who smoke and even thought they only smoke outside and not in the house, their kids have always had more respiratory problems than the kids whose parents don't smoke at all. Do you have pets in the house? Do you have lots of houseplants or a garden that could have plants or trees your child might be allergic to? If it was my child I would probably go for a second opinion. In the meantime, just look around for something that could be causing the allergies and see if there is anything about your child's environment that you could change.

It may be reasonable to see another physician, specifically a pediatrician. The rattling you are hearing is likely to be upper airway congestion. Allergy is a possibility but your child is quite young for that. Most importantly, look at your child's growth curves. If these remain the same and he is growing as expected (in other words if he stays at a given percetile of height and weight ) then there is good reason to think that the he is thriving despite the congestion. I would personally be hesitant to give a 7 month old medications unless these is a reasonably well defined entity that needs treatment. All medications have the potential of side effects.

You could go into the bathroom and run a hot, hot shower while you hold her upright. Stand in the middle of the room so she doesn't get splashed, and if you can, keep the doors and windows closed and the vents off. You can also try to prop up her bed a bit so she isn't lying completely flat, but more on an incline. Sometimes taking her out into cold air can help her breathe, but that depends on where you live, and how sick she is. If she's breastfed, offer the breast more, and if she's not, see if she will suck on a paci. Sometimes that can help move mucous along. Good luck! I hope she feels better soon.

My suggestion is that you need to take your baby to another doctor. When my grandson was having similar symptoms, they found out that he did have a sinus infection. They told us to get a humidifier or at least boil water to put moisture in the air. This helped his breathing and the amoxicillin helped the infection.

Allergies could be causing all this, and there are medicines that baby at this age can take. You should talk about this with your pediatrician.
