Why are you against tampons? Really, if you want to go swimming, you will need to wear a tampon, it's the sanitary thing to do.

Once and for all... bathing does NOT stop the flow of your period. That is a myth. I'm 39 years old, my period never lightened up or stopped b/c of swimming, bathing, or showering.

"Another glaring misconception is that women should not bathe during their entire period — an age old theory handed down to women by their mothers or other elderly women. Perhaps women believed that bathing disrupted the menstrual flow but this is entirely untrue. “Bathing does not affect the menstrual period at all and causes no harm. It should be encouraged,” said Dr Sadiqua Jaffery, Professor of Gynaecology at the Ziauddin Hospital. It is imperative that women use clean sanitary pads and keep themselves clean."

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww yes, the water will go red. Don't pay any attention to people who say that it will stop in the water - IT DOESN'T!! My friend had to learn that the hard way...the only way you can go in the water with your period is if you use a tampon or a menstrual cup. Why are you so against tampons? I think they're easier, and mush more sanitary than pads. Hope this helps and have a great holiday! xo
P.S. Would YOU like going in the water if someone had their period and wasn't wearing a tampon/menstrual cup? Gross...
P.P.S. Here are some links below that may be useful to you.

If you are going swimming you HAVE to use a TAMPON. You have no other choice. You will end up BLEEDING IN THE POOL if you don't use a tampon. end of story. Wear a tampon or don't go swimming. (Water does not stop a period. It just washes away the blood).

Besides, would YOU want to go swimming if someone else was bleeding in the pool? It isn't safe for you or anybody else.

It's either you use a tampon/menstrual-cup and go have fun with your family or stay out of the water and use a pad. It's unsanitary to go into the water during your period without a tampon or a menstrual cup. Tampons are REALLY easy to use, sweetie! You shouldn't be worried about them. Just go to the store and grab a box of Playtex SlimFit tampons, they have a very tiny and slender applicater which is essential for beginners. Have fun in Florida!

This is exactly how I started using tampons. There's no way you should give up something fun just because you have your period. If the problem is getting it in, use a plastic applicator, lay on the floor, use a mirror, prop your leg up on the toilet, what ever works. The biggest problem for me was finding the hole. One time I coached my friend through the bathroom door. One its in you should have a few hours to swim with no worries. If your worried about knowing when it's full the cord that hangs down usually turns red.

i agree with the others, you just have to use a tampon if you're going swimming. maybe the question though is WHY are you so against it? have you not done it before? are you nervous about it? had a bad experience?

i'd look at those options and see what you can think of... maybe while you sitting by the pool since it is just absolutely horrible, seriously, a public health issue, if you go into the pool without a tampon.

NASTY! GROSS!

You should not go into the water while on your period unless you have a tampon or moon/diva cup!!!

Your period does NOT stop or slow in the water, and you will be one embarrassed girl when you get out of the pool and the pool guests see blood running down your leg.

You will be making the pool water unsanitary for everyone else there.

I´ve done this personally, some people may find it gross, but anyway. When you get into water your period stops, so before getting into the pool I had a shower and clean down there very good. Then I went quickly to the pool and I had no problems with it, no accidents.
Then I used a tampon, cause when you get out your period automatically comes again, your period stops due to the pressure of the water over your cervix.
It will come more days, because you are supposed to get out an ammount of blood and you are retainning it when you get into water.
I used to swim everyday and my swimming lessons teacher told me this, so it is affective and no tampon involved.

Good luck! ;D

Nasty. Please stay out of the water if you're bleeding and can't use a tampon.
