Yes this is common. My mom is a nurse, her friend is a nurse and her friend's husband is a doctor.
When I was staying with the friends I was sick and they acted like they didn't care. i am sure if it was serious they would have responded.

If it's something serious he would be worried, but since he knows about medicine he wont get alarmed about a cold or anything like that, maybe ur friend is one of those wimpy peoplel that cries over an broken nail.. I work in the medical business (medical assistant) and I have to hear people complaining all day so when I get home sickness is the last thing I wanna listen too, specially if it's nothing serious.. is not insensitivity, is just comes with the job.

It has more to do with the fact that he is a man than the fact that he is a doctor. Men are not usually as sympathetic when we are sick as we are when they are sick. It is because men are babies and cannot take care of themselves when they are sick. (Not every man is like this, but the majority are.) Women, on the other hand, realize life doesn't stop when we are sick, we have people depending on us for care, and therefore, we continue on. Your friend's husband gets paid to see patients where he works. He's not getting paid at home. It's not that he doesn't care, it's just the way most men are.

This is a common among all women. I have never met a man that would take care of me when I was sick...my X sister in-law made a comment to me about my now X husband...God forbid girl, that you should ever get really sick...he'd probably leave you.

Usually doctors are trained to not show much emotion when dealing with sickness. For him it is commonplace, and if she is just down with something common, he doesnt worry about it too much. When he starts to worry, then she should be worried about an illness.

Doctors are always tending to sick people. Over time they develop a thick skin to people who are ill. Sounds like she is craving attention. Light some candles, quiet dinner, play "doctor" later!!

If her ailment is not life threatening, a doctor will usually not care that much. He sees patients everyday, he's immune to it.
