I wasn't that crazy about Texas, but New Mexico is a lovely state. They have mountains and forests for winter type activities and deserts that are wild and lovely. It has a lot of the good stuff you find in California without the big city issues you get there. And the climate is great. They don't often have terribly severe weather of any kind except in the southern part of the state it can get quite hot in the summer. But generally no tornados or hurricanes or even earthquakes.

Maine is ranked as one of the nation's safest states in an annual analysis that came out Thursday.
In a report released Thursday morning, the Kansas research firm Morgan Quitno Press said Maine is the third-safest state. Maine was the second-safest state last year.
Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona were ranked as the most dangerous states. The safest states were North Dakota, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Wyoming.
Morgan Quitno bases it rankings on a formula using crime rates in six crime categories.

The safest states are places like Minnesota and North Dakota. Of course, they have brutal winters. However, the economy in these states is doing very good and houses are very affordable compared to places like California and Florida.
You can still find property at reasonable prices along the coast in North and South Carolina. The hurricane risk is much lower there than in Florida. Crime is not particularly bad and the economy is doing good. This area is becoming very popular with older people who are retired.

Minnesota is not exactly a safe place to live unless you plan living in the suburbs or on the countryside, if you in the twin cities their is alot of crime and gangs, but racism is very surprisingly minimal(in the st.paul area) jobs are good houses are cheap. But do not be fooled by what you hear, there are very dangerous neighborhoods in st.paul and minneapolis. avoid north side and south side minneapolis, and the selby and east side of st.paul. but it gets cold as hell...if you don't mind cold i suggest duluth,mn...its pretty safe and decent sized.

TRY ARIZONA: EVERY CLIMATE FROM ARCTIC TO DESERT. 1000 NATURAL SCENIC WONDERS - YOU COULD SPEND A LIFETIME SEEING GREAT SIGHTS THERE. SMALLER TOWNS WITH LOW CRIME, LARGE CITIES HAVE PROBLEMS. THE COST OF LIVING IS VERY LOW AS ARE THE LAND PRICES. THE PEOPLE ARE NICE AND FRIENDLY. MILLION DOLLAR HOUSES IN L.A. WOULD SELL FOR $1-200,000 IN PHOENIX. THE LIFESTYLE IS EASY-GOING. EVERYONE LIVES AROUND THEIR SWIMMING POOL. FIESTA ALL DAY!
